Saudi Arabia - Half moon bay
The beach.. ahh i loved the beach when i was growing up in Saudia. My sisters and I used to roll down the big sand dunes, build sand castles (which my dad always stomped on!).. or poke the jellyfish that washed ashore.. I remember there was once an abandoned van in the middle of the beach all rusty inside.. but it had a nice smell. I always had a good time.. so after 10+ years I was really looking forward to our little trip there..
We arrived a little before sunset.. so there wasnt too much light..
The place was pretty deserted.. there was only one other family there.. and a couple further along admiring the sunset.. and NO i didnt take any good sunset pictures.. i was stuck in a sand dune somewhere.. by the time i ran down the sun dipped over the horizon!!
This used to be the sand dune that we rolled down.. it used to be huge (really it was!).. and there were never any trees on top.. very very suspicious.. hmmm..
ahhh.. i tried.. and now i'm convinced humans are not meant to lay eggs..
here's some sand for u..
my attempt at being "artistic".. hehe.. A lot of the royalty buy big strips of land along this beach.. the building you see belongs to one of them..
i like all the lines in this picture..
ok i did take one or two pictures of the sun.. hehe
goodbye!
Ahh the sand dunes.... They used to be gigantic...literally there was one where the edge was so steep that you felt like you were jumping off the edge of a mountain... it's so sad to see them so small. I remember that they were so big that the road leading to the beach used to get covered over with sand - and people would regularly get their cars stuck in the sand - always an exciting event.
And Salim don't forget the starfish that would also wash up on the shore... they were pretty cool.
We used to camp out on the beach for girl scouts and brownies... i remember getting sick one year and they had to drive me home in the middle of the night. I also remember waking up early to see dolphins playing in the water. Sigh... what memories..
So salim does ARAMCO still have their beach next to ours? or not?....
Wish i could be there with you...
miss ya -
ur big sistah L
WOW
you're so lucky i hate you right now. the pics are great, as usual, and i used the sunset one as my wallpaper! it's so soooooooooooothing. Just being at a beach is an experience that you can never describe, especially at sunset! you've managed to put that feeling back into me in just a picture. I salute you, oh sensei. can't wait to see you in the uae.. btw i'm sure you've heard by now that Sheikh Zayed passed away, allah yer7amo.. (for those of you who don't know he was the president of the UAE) the whole country is in mourning.. AND even worse that douchbag from idiotville got re-elected! why! why!!
hala Salim, I'm glad your having a great time..the pics are great...Inshalah we'll be seeing you in Dubai for eid... (lots of causins you haven't met yet!!!!! dont forget to buy a note book for all the new names!! its ok i'll help you,,:) lol)

Ahlan ya Ukhteeee
I forgot about the star fish!! Thanks for your great description of the once monolithic sand dune.. Dad says he saw dolphins swimming not too long ago.. so some things havent changed.. but some always do. Oh and I dont think Aramco is there anymore.. the American base is there.. they've been there for quite some time. Miss u.. bite the monkey for me!
Wawie I heard the news, you have my condolences.. They've been showing a lot of stuff about the history of Sheikh Zayied.. he did so much!! Hey have u been thinking about the Wawie tour? we have to play pool at some point..
Doons.. I got your email!! It was very interesting.. i felt like I got an inside look into the machinations of your brain!! U need to send us another one sometime, preferably soon after a large cup of coacoa and a messy dissection.
Khuloood.. good to hear from u cousin!! When I see you I'm going to ask you the usual "questions".. and this time u'll have to answer! (I hope) I'm definately going to need your help when i see the hordes of cousins.. could you get them to all wear name tags, or just write their names on their foreheads??
Thanks everyone for ALL the comments, I really appreciate them! It makes all the frustrations of uploading these pictures (with a dial up connection!) worthwhile.. take care.
Hey no playing pool without me!
