Saudi Arabia - Corniche time

Hello!

Here are some pics of the Khobar (the city down the road) and Dammam (the other city a little further down the road) Corniche. The corniche is a long stretch of urban straddling coastline that has been developed and manicured for strolling/picnicing families and health conscious males with no place to jog. Since its a few minutes walk from the hussle and bussle of the cities it is often buzzing with people in the evenings.

In the early days all you could find along the beach were some old rusty swings.. a slide or two and maybe one of those springy horse things. I remember hearing tales of kids burning the skin off their backs as they slid down the superheated sunbaked slides. Those were the days!!! Anyways here are some pics of the Khobar Corniche..

To get to this part of the corniche you first have to cross three streets with crazy drivers.. its like that old game Frogger.. Or you can flap your wings and fly across as I am doing in this pic.

Here's the same street at night.. just for your enjoyment.

Why am I showing u this dirty parkinglot? So u can see all the tire marks of course!! This is where some of the local kids show off their cars and do all those donut things..

And here's one section of the strip... Zahra u can see part of the Meridian in the distance

Remember the bridge to Bahrain? Well.. u can see it in the background..

My sisters will really appreciate how funny this sign is.. This is a warm up spot for people who are about to jog or walk furiously down the Corniche..

Hey Nisha, there are so many cute little cats running around!! (awwww!!)

My mom was convinced that I couldnt do a pull up.. hah!! I did one.. then my dad told me to hold the pose while he took a picture.. Of course he took his time getting the cam ready.. so when he finally takes the picture I look like I'm chewing on the bar.. hehe

On another day we drove along the Dammam corniche.. u can see there's a bit of a difference..

This is an old dhow, a lateen-rigged sailing vessel used mostly by Arabs (thanks wawie!)

i gave this one a few friendly pats... it has seen better days.

Yeah.. it does look like he's peeing in that bucket.. Bobo isnt that a great fishing spot?? :)
